What’s The Best Way To Monitor My Kids Web Activity?

Written by Make Money Online on January 30th, 2010 in Web Traffic

I have recently found cause to look a little closer into my children’s internet activity. What is the best product to do this?
I have a router at home with 3 computers connected through it. I need to monitor IM, and HTTP traffic. Ideally, I would have an IM log, and a list of sites visited.
If need be, I plan on shutting off inappropriate sites via the router controls.

Go to “parentalcontrols.com” its a really good website to go to. It’s free.
Another way is to look over their shoulder or peek around the door.

The best protection is K-9 Web Protection. Best of all its Free! Just install it on every computer that has internet access! You will have no need to mess with the router. Set the controls to whatever it will block and set a password to override blockage to a site that you know is ok.

I use a program called PCSeninel. It records all IMs, websites visited and has a lot of great features. I have had it awhile and am pleased with it so far but I am sure there are others out there that may be better.
Go to www.pcsentinel.com and you can download a free trial version to play aroud with and decide if it has all the features you are looking for. I think it cost about $30.

you can set it to where you get all the websites they are on emailed to you or if you have aol you can set it to 13 and under 18 and under 19 and older and that will block off bad sites

I’ve found ChatWatch4 from Zemerick software to be an excellent IM monitor. It logs both sides of any IM chat, and runs in stealth mode with password access if you want to stay
“cool”!!!An easy to use and totally effective program.
I used to use a keylogger called Spy Lantern, which kept a list of sites visited, but was ineffective with IM chats, maybe running both together in stealth mode would do the trick.

look over their shoulder when they use the computer

I’ve heard that there are parental controls but I’m not sure how that works or
how you go about getting it. It’s tough being a parent and trying to protect your
kids on the web. I just want to give you a round of applause for doing your best
    to protect your children.

best way is a hardware keylogger. Most kids (at least me and about 10 more kids I know) can hack and go around all of these ways… The hardware keylogger won;t be noticed unless your kids look behind their computer on a regular basis.
