What Are The Legalities Of Running A Public Proxy Server?

Written by Make Money Online on January 20th, 2010 in Web Traffic

I am thinking about hosting a Public website proxy server (for ppl to use at schools/work)
Wondering if, since my IP address will be used for everyone’s web traffic, if one user does something illegal through my proxy, will I be held accountable?

have a privacy policy / terms of use — that state you keep logs (and do keep them) saying you will turn them over if contacted by law inforcement

This varies by jurisdiction. You may not be held legally accountable, but you can bet that if someone commits illegal activities through your proxy, you’re going to be visited by law enforcement – and that’s a best-case scenario.
