It depends on your site layout, content, format and ad placement
In our case, boxes – whether large or medium rectangles – perform the best. However, boxes placed in the content (after first paragraph of article) works best compared to boxes put on the right most column
Leaderboard on the homepage works extremely well, but leaderboard on the inside pages do not so we removed those
Skyscrapers work least for us so we are replacing those with other ads.
I suggest you test the best ad placement and format in your site. Use channels so you can track how each placement and format performs.
